Rule Breaker

With this outfit, I'm breaking one of those unspoken plus size rules: Oversize clothes are fashionable and interesting if you're slim, and indeed loose clothing is encouraged and produced in vast quantities for sizes 14+. Yet somehow, I know I'm not supposed to wear a vast denim shirt. On me, it doesn't emphasize an angular body.
As usual, it's not "flattering." And yet? I dig it.

The shirt is my dad's, and large even on him. As a family of bird keepers, we're apt to have a lot of thick, long-sleeved shirts on hand. Bird feet are sharp!

These sunglasses are literally from ACE HARDWARE. They cost THREE DOLLARS and I'm sorta in love???? What a weird stroke of luck.
And my all-summer shoes, of course!

New do!!!

I've been dying to show off my newly cropped locks. It's so short and curly and happy and free! When your hair is only shoulder length, a few inches make a world of difference. Loosing those dead ends and opting for a layered, asymmetrical look feels absolutely amazing.
Oh, I especially love the back! My curls have new definition, bounce, and life--thanks in large part, of course, to dropping sulfates and silicones and conditioning like a madwoman. My hair looks nice in these pictures after squishing in my styling products, but I think I like the result even better when I rake and shake. I call myself a 2C and a 3A, depending on how much spring I wind up with that day. Raking and shaking definitely makes me springier!!
Bonus: Tito!
He was very interested in my camera.

Proper Twist

I feel like I've finally perfected a messy low twist in my hair, a hairstyle I've been longing to get right for ages--just in time, as might be expected, for my impending haircut. Oh well. I enjoyed it for today, at least.

Of course, my hair has had this big chunk of mistake in the back since I dyed it, and the subsequent fading has only emphasized that. Yikes. I want to say it's not this obvious in real life, but it probably is. Ah well. Another inch of growth and maybe I can start pretending it was intentional. It still needs some uh, rest, before I bleach it again, so them's the breaks!

I think you move me

Don't buy this swimsuit. I love the way it looks on me, but don't buy it.
Reasons you shouldn't buy this: 1) It runs small. If you're busty you're gonna have a bad time. I don't think I've ever shown this much cleavage in my life. 2) The under wire burst out after A SINGLE USE. I'm so glad I got it on super sale because the quality is just awful.
That said, I'm loving the total cliche that is Chunky Lady in a Cheetah Print Bikini. Here comes summer!
Shout out to my sister for her extreme hand with a crappy cell phone camera.
And a double shout out for her taking a video of me when I thought she was just continuing her stream of silly pictures. To my discredit, I probably should have guessed when she told me to dance.

At least I don't have to worry about chlorine changing the color of my hair anymore!

Suit is from Wet Seal, but manufactured by someone else. I lost the tag.

We got a jumper

I snagged this denim jumper at Goodwill last weekend for $5.99. I don't think it's ever been worn!
My aesthetic might be "things suburban moms wore in the 90s." The cut is a little dorky, but I love the deep pockets, and you KNOW I'm all about denim!

I desperately need a haircut, though.
Additionally I am sporting "Wine and Dine" from the Nyx high voltage lipstick line. I've had it for more than a month and I can't believe this is the first time I've worn it! It became a fast favorite from the moment I put it on.

An Old Lady's Couch

My sister took one look at this dress this morning and said: "It's like the perfect Bridie outfit! You're finally dressed as an old lady's couch!" She gets me.
The dress itself is from Wet Seal (click here for similar!). I love the print, and that it's a nice jersey. I bought it in a 1X. So many cheap maxi dresses are done up in polyester woven nightmares, which rather destroys the point.
All the same, I'm not sure I recommend it. It's shockingly a nice length for me; I am 5'4 and was surprised to discover that it needed no hemming. The arm holes are weird, though, and hang oddly low. I guess you get what you pay for...and I did only buy this because everything was half off.
Perfect for this unusually breezy June day.
This is the best picture I got of my newly thrifted seashell earrings. $1.99 and delightful.

Mermaid Status

Surprise! Are you surprised? I am, I find. Until about two weeks ago, I thought I'd never do crazy colored hair. I'm not sure what changed, but I couldn't be happier.
It's not all one color, nor quite as bright as I was hoping. Perhaps this was to be expected. I had a couple layers of cheap dye in my hair, but I never dreamed it would be so difficult to bleach my hair. I've always been pretty resistant to dyes, but this was ridiculous. I was finally unwilling to damage it anymore!
With the help of my 11 year old sister (who is a serious hand at dying hair, considering she's never done so before) and generous helpings of coconut oil, I was able to maintain my natural texture. What you see here is third day hair!
I used Ion Brights Aqua with a little purple mixed in. I'm in love with it, even if it goes from aqua to an unintended asparagus green.
Maybe I'll go over it again? Maybe I won't. Either way, it's a fun adventure. My middle school self would be proud.
